a place to start your career when you don't know where to start

Welcome to the Audaciousness
You're at your college graduation ceremony, sitting in a silent panic because you have no idea what's coming next. Or maybe it's 2PM, and you're staring at the clock wondering why it's moving so slow. Or perhaps your debit card was just declined at Target, and you're thinking, "Has it really been that long since I was laid off?"

No matter the reason, you know you need a new career. But where do you start?

There's no denying it—there has never been a better time to be a career-seeking woman. Our opportunities seem endless, and there are only more doors opening. But when the choices seem endless, choosing one sometimes can be difficult, especially when you're not even sure what your choices are.

A lot of people in your situation will take the easy way out. They'll settle for whatever they can get, even if it means cruising through life with a job that's just "meh." Because, hey, navigating through a world of endless opportunities is a lot of work, after all.

This blog isn't for them.

This blog is for the women who aren't afraid to take a leap but just don't know where they're leaping. It's for the hard-working women who want to make a difference, but don't know where to do it. This blog is for the women who have the audacity to work for a life they love, but just don't know where to start.

The goal of this blog is to help women like you find a job that you enjoy and that you're good at. To not just live your life, but live it audaciously so.

What will you find here?
That main focus of this blog is career profiles featuring real women and their careers, the ultimate goal being to provide information on a collection of career choices from women who've been there. While each of the women featured is remarkable in her own way, these aren't ladies with their own E! series. These women are relatable, hard-working women, grinding it out in the real world just like you and me.

Similarly, the profiles themselves aren't shiny, stock photo-filled career center pamphlets; their purpose is to help you understand what you can really expect, day-to-day, from each career, particularly as a woman. Each profile will also give insight on how each woman landed her career, and her advice to anyone who is thinking about following her path.

Think of it like a virtual career fair, without the free pens or BS.

(On a side note, if you are interested in being featured in a career profile, please head over here and let me know!)

About the Blogger
I'm Nicole. Like many students, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I graduated from college. And part of the reason for that was that I had no idea what I even could do.

So when I graduated, I took a job working in a research lab, the most logical choice for someone with a biochemistry degree. It was a great job with a great company, but there was one problem—I quickly learned that lab work really isn't my thing.

Which is a problem for someone who works in a lab.

But if I didn't work in a lab, what else could I do? With a science degree, I had no idea if there were any other options available, much less what they were.

So I did what any millennial would when she doesn't know something—I Googled it. And luckily for me, my Google search brought me to a blog that described how a science background can be used in patent law. A year and a half later, I passed the Patent Bar Exam to become a registered Patent Agent.

I now work from home as a contracting Patent Agent, a job that I (usually) genuinely enjoy. I currently live in Southwest Florida with my fiance, Derrick, and our hedgehog, Penelope. I'm excited about this blog because I personally know how useful accessible information can be in helping us achieve our goals; if it wasn't for that Google search, I would have never even known that patent law existed.

I know that the first step in achieving a goal is making one, and how difficult that can be... which is exactly why I started this audacious blog.
